About the Journey

Overview

This is a 2-day / 2-night cabin Shabbaton in the Delaware Water Gap over the Aug 7th weekend.

We will be bunking together in a cabin at the AMC Mohican Outdoor Center – a gorgeous location with a swimmable lake, lots of picnic tables and green spaces, and some incredible nearby trails.

We'll gather together, prepare for Shabbat, relax in the quiet of the forest, and laugh, connect, sing, play games, and rest.

This trek will be led by Max Gruber! Max is an experienced Lech-Lecha trekker and guide. You can get to know Max here.

This retreat doesn't have any sort of physical demands.

AMC Mohican Outdoor Center – Delaware Water Gap, PA

Our retreat will be hosted at the AMC Mohican Center located about 1.5 hours away from NYC.

There is parking on-site.

We are renting out bunkrooms in a shared cabin. To keep costs down for participants, we're only renting out rooms we need. That means, we might share communal space with others.

The Mohican Outdoor Center is a beautiful historic location with lots of trails, a beautiful swimmable lake, cabins, green spaces, and picnic areas. It is one of our favorite locations.

The Mohican Center is accessible by car. Parking is available on premise.

(Subject to change depending on weather and trail conditions)

Day 1 — Friday, Aug 7 – 1pm

We will meet at the Mohican Center by 1:00 PM.

We will move into our cabin and begin prepping for Shabbat. We'll hopefully finish our preperations quickly and can spend the rest of the day by the lake and in the forest.

Once Shabbat arrives, we'll bring in Shabbat with song and intentional conversation and then share in good food and good company!

Day 2 — Saturday, Shabbat, Aug 8

We spend Shabbat in the cabin, playing games, singing, exploring the grounds, and in some intentional exploration and prayer/meditation.

The day is open for rest, reflection, conversation, and time in nature, with optional short walks nearby (within your comfort level). This is a chance to fully unplug and experience Shabbat in a quiet, natural setting.

Day 3 — Sunday, Aug 9

We will make breakfast, pack up, close our circle, and plan to head home around 12pm.

Self-Kindness

This weekend is an invitation to practice and explore seeing the good in others.

To notice how we relate to ourselves—especially in moments of effort or discomfort—and to meet that experience with patience instead of pressure.

Moving at your own pace.

Resting when needed.

Letting you, and the experience, be enough.

We welcome people of all levels of Jewish observance. Our trips are structured to ensure that participants who observe Shabbat and kashrut can do so comfortably.

We will arrive at our cabin before Shabbat on Friday where we will prepare for Shabbat together and spend Shabbat resting.
