About the Journey
Why Backpack in Alaska?
Alaska is one of the greatest wilderness destinations on earth.
With vast mountain ranges, glaciers, alpine tundra, and remote valleys, the state offers an outdoor experience unlike anywhere else in North America.
Our trips focus on iconic Alaskan backpacking routes that combine spectacular scenery with accessible backcountry travel.
We hire local guides who can show you the spots tourists don't often find.
Upcoming trip:
Resurrection Pass Trail
Our next Alaska expedition will take place in August 2026, following the famous Resurrection Pass Trail on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula.
Participants will hike through alpine valleys, remote backcountry, and mountain ridges before celebrating Shabbat together in the Alaskan wilderness.

A Unique Jewish Wilderness Experience
Backpacking trips that are both kosher and Shomer Shabbat friendly are extremely rare.
Lech-Lecha’s Alaska trips are designed specifically to make wilderness exploration possible for participants who observe Jewish practice.
Our trips include:
Kosher food throughout the trek
Shabbat-friendly itineraries
A small group community experience in the wilderness
Experienced wilderness guides
To our knowledge, this is one of the only Jewish backpacking trips in Alaska offered on a regular basis.
Past Alaska Trips
2025 — Kesugi Ridge Trek
In 2025, Lech-Lecha led a backpacking expedition across Kesugi Ridge, one of Alaska’s most famous trails, located in Denali State Park.
The route offers spectacular views of Denali, North America’s tallest mountain, while traveling through alpine tundra and remote wilderness landscapes.
Location and How to Get There
Participants should plan to fly into Anchorage, Alaska.
Our trips begin with a meetup in Anchorage, where the group gathers before traveling to the trailhead together.
From the meetup point onward, all transportation is provided by Lech-Lecha. This includes transportation to the trailhead and the return trip to Anchorage at the end of the trek.
Detailed arrival instructions and the exact meetup location will be shared with registered participants prior to the trip.
What Makes Our Trips Different?
Our Alaska treks are designed around a few core values:
Small groups
Trips are intentionally limited in size to create a more personal wilderness experience.
Community
Participants share not just a hike, but a meaningful journey together.
Respect for Jewish practice
We welcome people of all levels of Jewish observance. Our trips are structured to ensure that participants who observe Shabbat and kashrut can do so comfortably.
True wilderness
We focus on routes that offer real backcountry immersion rather than crowded destinations.
